意大利作曲家兼歌手阿雷格里（１５８２-１６５２），于１６３０年受聘于罗马教廷合唱团（Papal Choir）后，即陆续为这个团体写作无数的曲子，“求主怜悯”（Miserere）就是那个时期他根据圣经旧约第五十一篇所谱写成的经文歌，共九篇，每年固定在复活节前一周演唱于Sistine Chapel，是成就极高的作品。
